What is Alternate Nostril Breathing?

Alternate Nostril Breathing is a controlled breathing practice where you breathe in through one nostril and out through the other, alternating sides in a steady rhythm.

The sequence is:

Inhale through left nostril
Close left, exhale through right
Inhale through right nostril
Close right, exhale through left
… and repeat 5 times.

Why it's good to use this technique during your Heavy Metal Detox

INSTRUCTIONS

Avoid doing this technique after eating.
The preference is to do this technique whilst sitting. You can do this laying down on your back or supported in a recliner lounge if preferred.
Typically, you use your thumb and ring finger to gently close one nostril at a time.
Spine straight
Cover the eyes
Dark quiet room.
Use headphones if possible.
Turn your phone off as the vibration on silent can also disturb your focus.
Arrange to not be disturbed for the length of this technique.

CAUTIONS*

Do not do this if you are:-

Caring for small children that require supervision.
Whilst driving or operating machinery
If you have a mental health diagnosis of any kind or are currently experiencing any mental health symptoms.
If you have any issues with your respiratory system
Have had recent surgery to your rib cage, collar bones, abdomen, digestive or respiratory system.

NOTES

You can use alternate nostril breathing for 5 minutes in the morning before food & supplements, to set a balanced tone for the day, and again in the evening, to calm the body and promote restful sleep when detox activity peaks.

It’s common that your mind will stop listening to the instructions at times. If this happens to you simply bring your awareness back to the guided instruction . Your concentration will change over time and with repeated practice. The same if you lose count, don’t worry and continue on.

The guidance is for 1 round of the technique. It’s recommended to do 5 rounds if possible and you have the time. 1 round is in the left, out the right, in the right, out the left. This is 1 round.

If you get interrupted, simply return to the instruction again. For those that are sympathetic nervous system dominant (i.e. overstimulated, overthinking), it's common to slip into running through lists in your mind of what you need to do (future) or what you have done earlier in the day (past).
